Abstract

The goal of this thesis was to acquire information about service lives or repair intervals of different structural parts of a bridge. These kinds of estimates could be used for instance in predicting the need for bridge maintenance and funding. The main purpose of the estimates gathered in this thesis is, however, to make it easier to define the effects of the bridge during its life cycle. The repair interval estimates gained as a result of this thesis will probably be used as a basis for Finnish Transport Agency's (FTA) own repair interval estimates. The theory of the life cycle analysis is reviewed in the theory part of the thesis. The theory part also includes the consideration of degradation mechanisms of different materials. Different ways to model the degradation are also discussed. The most convenient way to acquire repair interval estimates was considered to be by using Delphi-interview (an expert interview). This was because the scope of the thesis was wide and in considered the topic in general level. In the end of the thesis some comparable life cycle cost (LCC) calculations are made based on actual bridge sites. Good base material was acquired of the repair interval estimates. The answers are based on experiences of existing structures and already repaired structures. This way they are conservative estimates. The estimates are nonetheless good starting point for life cycle optimization. These values should be later updated when more experience is gained. The purpose of the estimates is to tell how the different structural alternatives perform in different exposures compared to each other. As a result of this thesis a suggestion has been made. The proposition is based on the Delphi-interview and its comments, and also to some estimates found in the literature. The proposition will be the base of FTA's own repair interval estimates that will be used for life cycle analysis. The FTA's estimates will be used in a database gathered in ETSI -project. The database and the estimates will make it possible to optimize the life cycle impacts of a bridge and its service life.

Diplomityössä oli tarkoituksena kerätä tietoa sillan eri rakenneosien korjausväleistä. Korjausväli- tai käyttöikäarvioita tarvitaan mm. siltojen hallinnan ja rahoituksen ennakointiin. Tämän työn tarkoituksena oli kuitenkin kerätä tietoa, joka mahdollistaa elinkaarianalyysin tekemisen. Työn tuloksia käytetään pohjana Liikenneviraston korjausväliarvioille. Työn teoriaosassa on tutustuttu elinkaarianalyysin yleiseen teoriaan. Myöhemmin on tarkasteltu eri materiaalien turmeltumista ja erilaisia menetelmiä korjausvälien arvioimiseen. Tavoitteen laajuuden ja yleisluonteisuuden vuoksi tulosten keräämisessä on päätetty hyödyntää nk. Delfoi-kyselyä eli asiantuntija-arvioita. Saatujen arvioiden perusteella on tehty muutamia vertailevia esimerkkilaskelmia elinkaarioptimoinnin selkeyttämiseksi. Arvioita eri rakenteiden korjausvaleiksi saatiin asiantuntijakyselyllä hyvin. Kyselyn arviot pohjautuvat kokemuksiin olemassa olevista ja jo korjatuista rakenteista. Tästä syystä nämä arviot saattavat olla varovaisia; ajatus onkin, että nämä arviot ovat ensimmäisiä arvioita, joita myöhemmin tarkennetaan. Näiden varovaisten arvioiden tarkoituksena on kuvata rakennevaihtoehtojen toimintaa eri olosuhteissa toistensa suhteen. Kyselyn tulosten ja kirjallisuudesta löydettyjen arvioiden perusteella tämän diplomityön tuloksena on tehty ehdotus Liikenneviraston käyttöön kyseisten rakenneosien elinkaarilaskennassa käytettäviksi korjausväleiksi. Liikenneviraston arvoja käytetään puolestaan ETSI -projektissa luotavassa rakenneosatietokannassa. Arvot mahdollistavat ja tarkentavat sillan elinkaarioptimointia.
