Abstract

Computer networks are an important part of the society's infrastructure as many critical services are dependent on them. A network monitoring system is needed to ensure that the networks function as they should. This work sets out to provide a fundamental guide to network monitoring. The guide includes information on monitoring protocols, the architecture of a network monitoring system and the organization to utilize the system. Finally, a service and supporting processes are presented.

Tietokoneverkot ovat tärkeä osa yhteiskunnan infrastruktuuria, koska monet kriittiset palvelut ovat riippuvaisia verkkojen tarjoamasta kyvystä välittää tietoa. Järjestelmä tietoverkkojen valvontaan on tarpeellinen, jotta saadaan varmistettua tietoverkkojen häiriötön toiminta. Tämän työn tavoitteena on tarjota perustietoa verkonvalvontajärjestelmistä. Työ sisältää tietoa valvontaprotokollista, valvontajärjestelmän arkkitehtuurista ja organisaatiosta, joka järjestelmää käyttää. Työn lopuksi esitellään valvontapalvelu sekä palvelua tukevat prosessit.
