Abstract
Premium SMS, mobile payment solution offered by network operators, has been popular in Europe. However network operators have charged high transaction costs, which has been a big challenge for merchants. The high transaction costs of premium SMS has also been a challenge for Finnish company Plusdial, who operates in the public transport mobile ticket market. In this research the bank and credit card based mobile payment solutions of Finland and Sweden were analysed from the Plusdial point of view. The objective was to find a solution that would suit well for the needs of Plusdial and could offer a good choice for premium SMS. In the first part of the study the mobile payment technologies were reviewed from the literature. After the theory three people from Plusdial were interviewed to study their requirements to the mobile payment solution. In the second part of the empirical study, mobile payment solutions of Finland and Sweden were evaluated against these requirements. Plusdial defined that easy initialisation, fluent payment process and good availability are the most important requirements for them. Four mobile payment solutions were found from Finland and Sweden, but none of them could fully meet the requirements that Plusdial defined. The biggest problem was in the initialization process of the solutions. One of the solutions could meet other requirements well, so collaboration was suggested to solve the remaining problems. If collaboration is not possible, there are no solutions available at this moment that could meet the requirements as well as premium SMS. Plusdial has to wait that mobile payment market becomes mature enough.Euroopassa operaattorilaskutukseen perustuva premium SMS -mobiilimaksamisratkaisu on ollut suuri tulonlähde operaattoreille. Suosiosta huolimatta premium SMS:n haasteena kauppiaiden näkökulmasta on ollut se, että operaattorit pyrkivät perimaan suhteellisen korkeita transaktiokuluja. Premium SMS:n korkeat transaktiokulut ovat myös olleet haasteena suomalaiselle Plusdial-yritykselle, joka tarjoaa mobiilimatkalippujärjestelmää joukkoliikenteen liikennelaitoksille. Tässä tutkimuksessa kartoitettiin pankki- ja luottokorttilaskutukseen perustuvien mobiilimaksamisratkaisujen tilaa Suomessa ja Ruotsissa, ja tämän kautta pyrittiin selvittämään Plusdialille vaihtoehtoja nykyisen transaktiokuluihin liittyvän haasteen ratkaisemiseksi. Tutkimuksen teoriaosuudessa perehdyttiin mobiilimaksamisen teknologioiden ominaisuuksiin ja tarkasteltiin teknologioiden käyttösovelluksia maailmanlaajuisesti. Teoriaosuuden jälkeen kerättiin haastatteluiden avulla Plusdialin vaatimuksia mobiilimaksamisratkaisulle. Tutkimuksen toisessa empiirisessä osuudessa arvioitiin Suomen ja Ruotsin mobiilimaksamisratkaisuja näitä haastatteluissa ilmenneitä Plusdialin vaatimuksia vasten. Tärkeimmiksi vaatimuksiksi muodostuivat mobiilimaksamisratkaisujen helppo käyttöönotto, sujuva maksuprosessi ja hyvä saatavuus. Mobiilimaksamisratkaisujen kartoituksessa Suomesta ja Ruotsista löydettiin neljä ratkaisua, mutta, mikään ratkaisuista ei kuitenkaan pystynyt täysin vastaamaan Plusdialin tarpeisiin. Suurimmaksi haasteeksi muodostuivat puutteet ratkaisujen käyttöönotossa. Koska yksi ratkaisuista pystyi vastaamaan hyvin muihin Plusdialin vaatimuksiin, nähtiin yhteistyö ratkaisun kehittäjän kanssa yhtenä vaihtoehtona nykyisen ongelman ratkaisemiseksi. Mikäli yhteistyöhön ei lähdetä, on Plusdialin odotettava mobiilimaksamismarkkinoiden kypsymistä, kunnes riittävän hyvä vaihtoehto saapuu markkinoille.Description
