Location based service (LBS) is becoming more and more important in recent years.
Based on the geographical information, LBS can facilitate people's daily life by providing advanced services like navigation, mapping, location specific weather information, etc.
Global Positioning System (GPS) is one of the most popular positioning technologies.
Thanks to the modern hardware technology, GPS chipset can be easily integrated into mobile devices.
In this thesis, a location based application is designed and implemented on S60 mobile platform.
Firstly, a general introduction is given to the S60 platform, including S60 platform architecture, the differences between Symbian C++ to the conventional C++, etc.
Secondly, different use cases of the application are discussed to help to better understand the design of the application.
Thirdly, the design and implementation details are presented.
All the components in the application are explained in detail as well as the algorithm in use.
Finally, the testing of the application is discussed briefly.
With a location specific Symbian Installation Source (SIS) package, the application developed in this thesis can be easily used in different areas, which greatly increases the extensibility and usability of the application.
