dc.description.abstract While disruptive technologies are offering attractive benefits for business process automation needs for companies across industries, the adoption of new technologies is anything but simple. One of the industries already transforming the way things are done with the help of disruptive technologies is the insurance industry, but sufficient information of the challenges related to the adoption of e.g. Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the industry is lacking. This research focused on the adoption of two main business process automation technologies: RPA and AI. The adoption of those technologies was studied in the Finnish non-life insurance industry and the report answers to two research questions: what is the stage of RPA and AI adoption in the Finnish non-life insurance industry and what are the factors that affect the adoption of RPA and AI in the Finnish non-life insurance industry? The research was conducted as a quantitative survey study and the results were analyzed with the method of descriptive statistics. The stage of RPA and AI adoption in the Finnish non-life insurance industry was determined and seven critical factors that impact the stage of adoption were identified and analyzed utilizing the TOE-framework. Finally, a conceptual framework of those factors was proposed. The results showed, that while on average the Finnish non-life insurance industry appears to be ahead of the global rates of RPA adoption, there is still room for improvement especially in the stage of AI adoption. The results also indicate, that for companies to succeed in their RPA and AI adoption initiatives, the impact of seven different critical factors should be taken into account, as they appear to affect the stage of adoption the companies in the industry reach. en
