Abstract
Opinnäytetyö koostuu taiteellisesta osuudesta, dokumentaarisesesta elokuvasta Still life, stillleben, Hiljaiselo ja tästä kirjallisesta osuudesta. Taiteellinen osuus on elokuva Ullmanilaisista uniryhmistä, joissa puretaan unia pienissä ryhmissä keskustelemalla. Kirjallinen osuus esittelee Ullmanilaisten uniryhmien periaatetta ja unienpurkumetodin pohjalta kehiteltyä aiheidearyhmää. Kirjallisen työn aineistona on käytännössä toteutettuja testityhmiä, joissa on purettu opiskelijoiden aiheideoita keskustelemalla Ullmanilaisen ryhmäprosessin mallia mukaillen.

The thesis consists of two parts —artistic and theoretical. The artistic part is a documentary film Still life, stillleben, hiljaiselo. The film is about dream groups where people study their dreams. The theoretical part presents Montague Ullman’s dream group process and an application based on that. The application is for studying ideas instead of dreams. For the theoretical part few idea groups were held in practice. From the practical part the text moves towards Sera Martikainen’s more personal view on documentary film making. Open, not understanding, not explaining and non verbal are in the very core of Martikainen’s artistic practice. These themes are being reflected by using few experiments, written source material, few films made by Martikainen and the light movements of inner worlds which are hard to catch. The text leads to the verge of open and tries to stay there. The most important tool for a documentary film director is the abstract world of all his/her experiences.
