Abstract:The aim of this thesis work was to study the possibilities of radical formation in wood fiber surfaces to enable direct fiber-to-fiber adhesion by radical-based reactions in the manufacture of fibreboard, particularly medium-density fiberboard (MDF). The fibers were produced by defibration at high temperatures. Radical formation was achieved by treatment with laccase, treatment with Fenton's reagent, or gamma-irradiation.
