Practice indicates that the building process neither supports harmonisation of basic installation technology and construction technology, nor provides the opportunity to promote the integration of basic installation technology. This study showed that the information about the factors and actors affecting this have not been surveyed scientifically.
Basic installation technology, which is a part of the installation technology, is unknown as the concept. There are factors and actors, which affect integration development. The size and direction of the effect were clarified on this study.
After the experience and the performed literature review a clear research problem was seen: "How to promote the coherence of installation technology systems through co-operation between installation technology and building technology?" To solve this problem, this thesis had the following aim: "The aim is to build up the model of the integrated modular installation system of the basic installation technology". To reach it utilising the retrospective literature review the development which has taken place in the basic installation technology of the building is clarified and those quarters and factors which affect the developing of the system of the basic installation technology of a building are identified and named. At the same time the impact of these identified factors on system development will be analysed and conclusions drawn for the industrial development of integrated systems.
The thesis covers technical network solutions and routing systems for the vertical and horizontal installation systems of residential and office buildings.
A qualitative theme interview was chosen to clarify the research problem and achieve the objective. The following qualitative analytical methods were used at this point: classification, categorisation, theme setting and examination of connections. The evaluation of the material involved collection of research material, analysis of the method and results.
This study gives a comprehensive view to the quarters which function in the frame of reference of the basic installation technology on that significance what kind of effect do the promoting and preventing factors and quarters, that have been identified and named, have for the integration and for the industrial manufacturing of the basic installation technology.
They were prioritised and their influence was clarified with the help of the developed influence indicator. The three most promoting quarters are the owner / user of the real estate, a system supplier and users. The three most promoting factors were questions of the life cycle, the expanding of the surplus value of the users and owners of premises and co-operation and networking between the branches. The three most preventing quarters were a main contractor, trade unions and subcontractor. The three most preventing factors were the occupational boundaries, attitudes and norms.
According to the study, the obstacles are removed with the methods as: with modules of the basic installation technology which are developed in the co-operation of branch parties, with the changes in the trade practice, with showing of economic savings, with different support forms (compare to the energy saving investment support in Finland), with education, changing of occupational boundaries and attitudes.
The model of modular installation technology system was developed as the result of this research. According to the results of the research, it is possible to get from the coherence of installation- and building technology to the integration of basic installation technology with the recommendations, which are used in the further development work. The most important recommendation is the modelling, unifying and combining of the systems and routings of the basic installation technology of a building. The result must be standardised as model solutions, modules and systems for the industrial product development. Furthermore, the norms of routing systems are obtained to modernise buildings. 9 recommendations were made for further development work. This is the first Finnish thesis on basic installation technology. This research forms a public bridge promoting the mutual coherence of installation technology and building technology in Finland. This research is an important bridgehead for the scientific community.
