Abstract
Condition based maintenance has become an increasingly popular maintenance strategy. According to the strategy, maintenance decisions are made in compliance with the actual condition of the equipment. The introduction of condition based maintenance strategy requires the establishment of a condition monitoring system that is used to determine the condition of the maintained equipment. One way to observe the condition of the equipment is to analyze the changes in its audio signature. This study examines the feasibility of an audio based condition monitoring system for the condition monitoring of a certain type of equipment. First, the audio signatures are measured in several conditions, where the equipment operates normally, and in three fault situations. Obtained audio signatures are then analyzed by using statistical features in time and frequency domain as well as power spectral densities. From the three fault cases, two can be accurately detected by using the selected methods. Different normal operational conditions do affect the sound signature, but notably not as much as the detected faults do.Laitteen kunnonvalvontaan perustuva menetelmä on viime aikoina noussut suosituksi kunnossapitostrategiaksi. Description
