Accelerated testing of elevator landing doors

Abstract

Reliability is a key issue in the highly competitive world market. Reliability affects the safety of a product, thus it is critical to be able to assess and control the reliability of a product, starting from product development. The aim of this master’s thesis is to design a test system and a testing process for accelerated testing of elevator landing doors. In accelerated testing, elevated stress levels are used to provide failures and results faster than under normal operation.

At first, a brief introduction to elevator doors is presented, followed by the standards governing the door operation. Also reliability engineering is discussed. After the literature review, the reliability testing process in use is presented as well as the present accelerated tester. The challenges of the present testing process and a need for a new accelerated landing door tester are presented.

A new design is developed, including a mechanical design as well as a control and measurement system. The new design improves the accelerated testing process of elevator landing doors by providing an easy to use installation procedure and user interface, methods for adjusting multiple testing parameters and a rigid structure that can withstand the elevated stress levels.

The new automated testing system is mainly intended for use with new products to uncover design flaws early in the development process, ensuring that the product design released for market is mature. The tester can also be used to qualify design changes and to compare products’ performance against each other using a few performance metrics.

Luotettavuus on tärkeimpiä osatekijöitä kilpailullisessa markkinaympäristössä pärjäämisessä. Luotettavuus vaikuttaa myös turvallisuuteen, joten on tärkeää mitata ja kontrolloida tuotteen luotettavuutta tuotekehitysvaiheen alusta tuotteen elin-kaaren loppuun saakka. Tämän työn tarkoituksena on suunnitella testauslaitteisto ja –prosessi hissin tasonovien kiihdytettyyn testaukseen. Kiihdytetyssä testauksessa käytetään korkeampia rasitustasoja, minkä vuoksi tuotteen viat ilmenevät nopeammin kuin normaaleissa toimintaolosuhteissa.

Työn alussa hissin automaattiovien toimintaperiaate, sekä oven toimintaa määrit-televät standardit esitellään. Myös luotettavuustekniikan perusteet käydään läpi. Kirjallisuuskatsauksen jälkeen kuvaillaan nykyisin käytössä oleva luotettavuus-testausprosessi ja kiihdytetyn testauksen laitteisto. Nykyisen prosessin ja laitteiston heikkoudet listataan ja näiden pohjalta syntynyt tarve uudelle testilaitteistolle esitellään.

Uusi testilaitteisto kehitettiin, sisältäen mekaanisen konstruktion sekä ohjaus- ja mittausjärjestelmän. Uuden laitteiston avulla kiihdytetty tasonovien testaaminen tehostuu, sillä järjestelmä on huomattavasti helppokäyttöisempi, siinä on useampia säätömahdollisuuksia sekä mekaanisesti vahvempi rakenne, joka kestää varmasti korkeammat rasitustasot.

Uusi automatisoitu testauslaitteisto on tarkoitettu pääasiassa uusien tuotteiden testaamiseen. Sen avulla löydetään vikaantumismoodit jo tuotekehitysprosessin alkuvaiheessa, jolloin niihin voidaan vielä puuttua. Näin ollen markkinoille päätyvä tuote sisältää vähemmän virheitä ja on luotettavampi. Testilaitteistoa voidaan käyttää myös jo olemassaolevien ovien testaamiseen, mikäli halutaan tarkistaa jonkin muutoksen vaikutus luotettavuuteen tai tuotteita halutaan verrata toisiinsa.
