Abstract
Opinnäyte Radikaali maaseututaiteen kaipuu käsittelee länsimaisen maaseututaiteen mallinnuksien uudistamisen tarvetta ja esittelee 2000 -luvulla käyttöön otettuja metodeja, esimerkkeinään ulkomailla toteutettuja taiteellisia yhteisö- ja yhteistyöprojekteja. Työ koostuu taidefilosofisista pohdinnoista ja moniosaisesta, jatkumoon pyrkivästä taideteossarjasta. Tutkimuksessa korostuu maaseudun alueellisten rakenteiden ja tarinallisten kerrostumien analysoiminen ja hyödyntäminen. Uusien maaseututaidemallien tarve on noussut 2010 -luvulla eri puolilla maailmaa yhä suuremman huomion kohteeksi. Kysymykset, joihin monet taideyhteisöt (mm. Yhdysvalloissa toimivat Art of the Rural – ja M 12 -kollektiivit) keskittyvät, selventävät eroja maaseudun ja kaupunkien taideilmiöissä. Ronald Primeaun kaunokirjallisuuden tutkimuksen avulla. Opinnäytteen taiteellinen osuus, kaksiosainen taideteos The Longing & The Curlew (2014) esiteltiin Bothnia Biennale -näyttelyn yhteydessä elokuussa 2014.

Master´s thesis Radical view on the Modern Rural Arts concentrates on the need for re-inventing the artistic structures and beliefs of modern rural arts on the western societies, and does this by examing new co-working methods brought to surface broughtly in the 21st century, specially in the US countryside. The study includes viewings on art philosophy and an artictis part, which entails a two-part art installation that pursues for continuance. The main key is to emphasize the structural patterns of the locality and the storylayers of history in the countryside. The deep need for new thoughts of the rural arts has come to be widely recognized all over the world. The rising questions are a keen intrest for many art collectives and organizations (such as Art of the Rural and M 12 in US for example) and they are trying to clarify the difference between art forms in the cities and countryside. By studying their approaches to the subject and considering the structure of rural art as an unsolved problem, there is to be found new thinking and working methods which have the ability to reform the visual imagination and artistic manifestation in the local scene. The research focus on the question what makes one feel the urge to experience art in a setting where it isn´t probable to exist, and how to identify and name the elements that prevents the art from emerging in the considered location. The text points out also where layes the differences between the needs of the individual and the society, and what kind of barriers will the artist meet within the interaction of art and its audience. The longing for a change will be answered with a radical thinking. On philosophical backround the text presents such writers as Alain Badiou, Janne Kurki and Erin Hogan. Views on outdoor architechtonical art will be examined throuhg the studies of Kaj Nyman and the historical storytelling will be analysed through the literature studies of Ronald Primeau. The artistic part of the thesis was build as a two-part art installation called The Longing & The Curlew and it was represented to the audience in august 2014 in the Bothnia Biennale art exhibition. The parts of the installation were located 25. kilometres apart and they existed profoundly as individual works but they were also linked keenly together by a same storyline laying in their backround. The artwork soon became a backround also for a musical theatre show held in the Seinäjoki Art Hall and the conversation of the changes of modern rural arts were also extended by co-working with Seinäjoki Art & Design Week -event and with Tästä Se Lähtee -project located in Jalasjärvi. As a continuance for the artwork there was organized an extra outdoor art exbition and the art pieces for it were made by longterm unemployed individuals of the project. This way the conversation started in the master´s thesis reflected back immeadiately from the society, offering new tools and methods both for the artistic field and the sosiocultural field in the local rural scene.
