Abstract
Opinnäytetyön taiteellisena osana toteutettiin 15-minuuttinen demo ohjelmasta Läpimur-to.

This thesis investigates how viewer engagement to a tv program can be intensified in the development phase of the program. The theory section of the thesis handles current devel-opments and change in media sector and the effects it has on content production, con-sumers and broadcasters. Interviews for the thesis were made with two chiefs of programming, a CEO of a produc-tion company and a researcher of fan culture. With the interviews it was possible to get up to date information about industry trends and practices. The artistic work in the thesis was a 15 minute demo of a tv program named Läpimurto. Virtual sets were used in the demo. The research focus in the work was on: viewer en-gagement, interactivity possibilities with virtual sets and the production process and pro-gram development. Main conclusions in the thesis were that the technological development, the proliferation of the social media and increased use of mobile technology have each changed the media sector. Consumers have become active agents who wish to choose what and when to con-sume content. Virtual sets made it possible to use new ways to present user created content in the pro-gram. The challenge with virtual sets were the amount of work in pre production and technical difficulties. The production of the demo gave a lot of information that can be used in further development of the program.
