dc.description.abstract This thesis has been done for Ensto Finland Oy as a part of expansion of their testing facility. The objective of the project is to study the standards for testing medium voltage and low voltage underground accessories and to determine the requirements for building up the test equipment for heating cycle test and impulse voltage test on them. Cable accessories to be tested include indoor terminations, outdoor terminations, cable joints and screened separable connectors. Essentially it is required to calculate the ratings of the testing equipment, approximate cost involved (cost information shall only be made available to Ensto Finland Oy and not discussed here) and required space for setting up the testing station. Tests were carried out to calculate the required rating of heating cycle test transformers. Safety standard for test laboratories were also studied in order to estimate space requirement and procedure for the safe installation and operation of the test equipment. Offers from various manufactures were collected to obtain the approximate cost for the test equipment. en
