Echo in a jar

Abstract

In this thesis, the intellectual and artistic process of making the short animation Echo in the Jar is examined. To what extent does the history of my country, my family, and my life affect my present and future? The way that the coincidence of women’s revolution in Iran and my inner revolution for independence, has created new layers of meaning.

Echo in the Jar is a film about unlimited Controlling/Directing, which has evolved with its own Creator/Director. A journey that started from confusion and hatred towards the Creator and reached a mutual understanding. In a cycle of control, you only see the hands that directly limit you; while in truth, that hand is also guided by many other hands that you do not see...

The technique of this work had a great impact on the story process. Since I, as the animator, was in charge of directing everything, I somehow felt sympathy for the mothers. With Gods... I had to build and destroy every frame in every detail. As if I was giving life, and killing them again to achieve a greater goal.

Every time I made a girl, it was a new woman. None of them were exactly the same as before. Exactly as this predetermined fate has happened to thousands and thousands of girls all over the world throughout history.
