Kehitysehdotus Teurastamon ja Tukkutorin alueelle - Uusi tapahtumapaikka Helsinkiin

Abstract

Muutaman viime vuoden aikana Helsingissä useat tapahtumapaikat ovat sulkeneet ovensa. Tämän lisäksi vuoden 2020 keväällä alkanut pandemia on kurittanut koko tapahtuma-alaa. Helsinki on Suomen pääkaupunki, mutta tiettyä kapasiteettia tukevia tapahtumapaikkoja on tällä hetkellä rajallisesti. Tässä diplomityössä esitetään suunnitelma uudeksi tapahtumapaikaksi, joka voisi tuoda lisää tapahtumia kaupunkiin ja toimia uutena vetovoimatekijänä.

Diplomityön kokonaisuus muodostuu neljästä osasta. Ensimmäisessä osassa taustoitetaan työn tekemiseen vaikuttaneita henkilökohtaisia lähtökohtia. Tämän jälkeen luodaan katsaus Helsingissä tällä hetkellä toimiviin ja sulkeutuneisiin tapahtumapaikkoihin sekä pandemian vaikutukseen tapahtuma-alalla. Lisäksi tarkastellaan Suvilahden tapahtuma-aluetta, sinne tehtyjä toistaiseksi toteutumattomia suunnitelmia sekä tulevaisuuden näkymiä.

Toisessa osassa analysoidaan suunnitelmaa varten kolmea eri kohdetta Suomen muissa kaupungeissa. Kohteet ovat Lahden Sibeliustalo, Hämeenlinnan Verkatehdas ja Turun Logomo. Tarkastelemalla olemassa olevia kohteita pyritään selvittämään toiminnallisten kokonaisuuksien kannalta merkittäviä tekijöitä, jotka vaikuttavat oleellisesti työssä tehtävän suunnitelman sijaintivaihtoehtojen tarkasteluun. Tämän lisäksi tarkastelussa pyritään kiinnittämään erityistä huomiota tapahtumatilojen muuntojoustavuuteen.

Kolmannessa osassa pohditaan mahdollisia vaihtoehtoja suunnitelman sijainniksi. Kohteita pyritään kartoittamaan logististen ominaisuuksien, ympäröivän kaupunkirakenteen ja olemassa olevien rakennusten näkökulmista. Tämän jälkeen esitetään perustelut sijaintivalinnalle, ja perehdytään tarkemmin valitun kohteen nykytilanteeseen. Tehdyllä tarkastelulla luodaan reunaehdot työssä tehtävän suunnitelman tekemiseen.

Neljännessä osassa esitellään työssä tehty kehitysehdotus valitulle sijainnille. Suunnitelman tarkoituksena on kehittää olemassa olevaa aluetta, jonka voisi tulevaisuudessa nähdä monisäikeisenä kulttuuri- ja tapahtumatoiminnan kehtona. Aluetta pyritään kehittämään sen ominaispiirteitä kunnioittaen ja kaupungin vetovoimaa kasvattaen. Lopuksi tarkastellaan tehdyn työn prosessia ja esitellään työssä tehdyt johtopäätökset.

In the past few years, several venues in Helsinki have closed their doors. In addition to this, the pandemic that started in the spring of 2020 has disciplined the entire event industry. Helsinki is the capital city of Finland, but there are currently limited venues that support a certain capacity. This thesis presents a plan for a new venue that could bring more events to the city and act as a new attraction factor.

The thesis consists of four parts. The first part provides background from the personal starting points that influenced the work. After this, an overview of the currently operating and closed event venues in Helsinki is made and the impact of the pandemic on event industry is shortly presented. In addition, the Suvilahti event area is presented with the so far unrealized plans made there, as well as the area’s future prospects.

In the second part, three different event venues in other cities in Finland are analyzed for the plan. The venues are Sibelius Hall in Lahti, Verkatehdas in Hämeenlinna and Logomo in Turku. By analyzing the existing buildings, the aim is to find out the factors that are relevant to the functional entities, which significantly affect the examination of the location alternatives of the design in this thesis. In addition to this, the review aims to pay special attention to the flexibility of examined event venues.

The third part considers possible alternatives for the location of the plan. The locations are viewed from the perspectives of logistical features, the surrounding urban structure and existing buildings. After this, the reasons for the choice of the location will be presented, and the current situation of the chosen location will be explored in more detailed manner. With the done review, the boundary conditions are created for making the plan in this thesis.

The fourth part presents the development proposal made in the work for the selected location. The purpose of the plan is to develop the existing area, which in the future could be seen as a diverse cradle of cultural and event activities. The aim is to develop the area while respecting its characteristics and increasing the attractiveness of the city. Finally, the process of the work done is reviewed and the conclusions made in the work are presented.
