- Adversarial attacks and defenses in Speaker Recognition Systems: A survey
A1 Alkuperäisartikkeli tieteellisessä aikakauslehdessä(2022-06) Lan, Jiahe; Zhang, Rui; Yan, Zheng; Wang, Jie; Chen, Yu; Hou, RonghuiSpeaker recognition has become very popular in many application scenarios, such as smart homes and smart assistants, due to ease of use for remote control and economic-friendly features. The rapid development of SRSs is inseparable from the advancement of machine learning, especially neural networks. However, previous work has shown that machine learning models are vulnerable to adversarial attacks in the image domain, which inspired researchers to explore adversarial attacks and defenses in Speaker Recognition Systems (SRS). Unfortunately, existing literature lacks a thorough review of this topic. In this paper, we fill this gap by performing a comprehensive survey on adversarial attacks and defenses in SRSs. We first introduce the basics of SRSs and concepts related to adversarial attacks. Then, we propose two sets of criteria to evaluate the performance of attack methods and defense methods in SRSs, respectively. After that, we provide taxonomies of existing attack methods and defense methods, and further review them by employing our proposed criteria. Finally, based on our review, we find some open issues and further specify a number of future directions to motivate the research of SRSs security. - EPMDroid: Efficient and privacy-preserving malware detection based on SGX through data fusion
A1 Alkuperäisartikkeli tieteellisessä aikakauslehdessä(2022-06) Wei, Wentao; Wang, Jie; Yan, Zheng; Ding, WenxiuAndroid has stood at a predominant position in mobile operating systems for many years. However, its popularity and openness make it a desirable target of malicious attackers. There is an increasing need for mobile malware detection. Existing analysis methods fall into two categories, i.e., static analysis and dynamic analysis. The dynamic analysis is more effective and timely than the static one, but it incurs a high computational overhead, thus cannot be deployed in resource-constrained mobile devices. Existing studies solve this issue by outsourcing malware detection to the cloud. However, the privacy of mobile app runtime data uploaded to the cloud is not well preserved during both detection model training and malware detection. Numerous efforts have been made to preserve privacy with cryptography, which suffers from high computational overhead and low flexibility. To address these issues, in this paper, we propose an Intel SGX-empowered mobile malware detection scheme called EPMDroid. We also design a probabilistic data structure based on cuckoo filters, named CuckooTable, to effectively fuse features for detection and achieve high space efficiency. We conduct both theoretical analysis and real-world data based tests on EPMDroid performance. Experimental results show that EPMDroid can speed up malware detection by up to 43.8 times and save memory space by up to 3.7 times with the same accuracy, as compared to a baseline method. - Multidecadal variability of the Tonle Sap Lake flood pulse regime
A1 Alkuperäisartikkeli tieteellisessä aikakauslehdessä(2021-09) Chen, Aifang; Liu, Junguo; Kummu, Matti; Varis, Olli; Tang, Qiuhong; Mao, Ganquan; Wang, Jie; Chen, DeliangTonle Sap Lake (TSL) is one of the world's most productive lacustrine ecosystems, driven by the Mekong River's seasonal flood pulse. This flood pulse and its long-term dynamics under the Mekong River basin's (MRB) fast socio-economic development and climate change need to be identified and understood. However, existing studies fall short of sufficient time coverage or concentrate only on changes in water level (WL) that is only one of the critical flood pulse parameters influencing the flood pulse ecosystem productivity. Considering the rapidly changing hydroclimatic conditions in the Mekong basin, it is crucial to systematically analyse the changes in multiple key flood pulse parameters. Here, we aim to do that by using observed WL data for 1960-2019 accompanied with several parameters derived from a Digital Bathymetry Model. Results show significant declines of WL and inundation area from the late 1990s in the dry season and for the whole year, on top of increased subdecadal variability. Decreasing (increasing) probabilities of high (low) inundation area for 2000-2019 have been found, in comparison to the return period of inundation area for 1986-2000 (1960-1986). The mean seasonal cycle of daily WL in dry (wet) season for 2000-2019, compared to that for 1986-2000, has shifted by 10 (5) days. Significant correlations and coherence changes between the WL and large-scale circulations (i.e., El Nino-Southern Oscillation (ENSO), Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) and Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD)), indicate that the atmospheric circulations could have influenced the flood pulse in different time scales. Also, the changes in discharge at the Mekong mainstream suggest that anthropogenic drivers may have impacted the high water levels in the lake. Overall, our results indicate a declining flood pulse since the late 1990s. - Recent developments in colorimetric and optical indicators stimulated by volatile base nitrogen to monitor seafood freshness
A2 Katsausartikkeli tieteellisessä aikakauslehdessä(2021-06) Ma, Qianyun; Lu, Xiaomin; Wang, Wenxiu; Hubbe, Martin A.; Liu, Yaqiong; Mu, Jianlou; Wang, Jie; Sun, Jianfeng; Rojas, Orlando J.Seafood spoilage could cause food waste and also serious foodborne disease because of the specific organisms and their metabolites. Therefore, it is important to monitor their freshness in the supply chain. In most cases, their spoilage has been determined by the content of volatile base nitrogen, adenosine triphosphate or the total viable count. However, these destructive detection methods are tedious and time consuming. Hence, it is highly desirable to develop easily operated and non-destructive sensing technologies for real-time detection. A lot of freshness indicators have emerged up to now. Colorimetric indicators are particularly beneficial to accompany use-by dates in food packaging as real-time indicators because they produce visible color changes to the naked eye, which can be easily understood by consumers and non-specialists. Numerous studies have considered the colorimetric indicators to monitor seafood freshness in recent years. This paper mainly focused on colorimetric indicators stimulated by volatile base nitrogen. The most traditional materials used in these indicators are also discussed. The challenges and opportunities in the systems are introduced in this context as well based on the published literature. - A Survey on Blockchain-based Trust Management for Internet of Things
A1 Alkuperäisartikkeli tieteellisessä aikakauslehdessä(2023-04-01) Liu, Yijia; Wang, Jie; Yan, Zheng; Wan, Zhiguo; Jantti, RikuInternet of Things (IoT) aims to create a vast network with billions of things that can seamlessly create and exchange data, establishing intelligent interactions between people and objects around them. It is characterized with openness, heterogeneity, and dynamicity, which inevitably introduce severe security, privacy, and trust issues that hinder the widespread application of IoT. Trust management (TM) holds great promise in identifying malicious nodes, maintaining trust relationships, and enhancing system security. Traditional TM systems (TMSs) can be classified into centralized, semi-centralized, and distributed ones, all three of which suffer from critical challenges and thus are not sufficient for facilitating IoT development. Blockchain, as a disruptive technology, can help addressing the challenges of TM in IoT, thanks to its advanced features, such as decentralization, consistency, and tamper-proofing. As a result, blockchain-based TM (BC-TM) has been extensively studied in recent years to achieve decentralized TM in IoT. However, it still lacks a comprehensive survey on the current state of the arts. To fill this gap, in this article, we conduct a serious survey on BC-TM in IoT. We first propose a set of evaluation criteria that should be met by a TMS in IoT. Then, we propose a taxonomy of TMSs and continue with a thorough review on BC-TM in IoT by employing the proposed criteria. In the end, based on the review, a series of open issues are identified, and future research directions are suggested. - A Survey on Trust Models in Heterogeneous Networks
A1 Alkuperäisartikkeli tieteellisessä aikakauslehdessä(2022) Wang, Jie; Yan, Zheng; Wang, Haiguang; Li, Tieyan; Pedrycz, WitoldHeterogeneous networks (HetNets) merge different types of networks into an integrated network system, which has become a hot research area in recent years towards next-generation communication networks. HetNets aim to effectively exploit network resources and provide seamless connectivity for heterogeneous objects. Unlike other networks, HetNets hold such characteristics as heterogeneity, openness, distribution, multi-domain involvement, thus are susceptible to various security threats and attacks. Traditional security approaches are not sufficiently effective in defending against them. With extensive study and practice, researchers found that trust models offer effective measures to enhance the security and reliability of a network system. However, there still lacks a comprehensive survey on the recent advances of trust models in HetNets. In this paper, we fill this gap. We first retrospect the history of HetNets research and introduce important concepts related to trust. Then, we propose a set of criteria that a sound trust model should satisfy, which can also serve as a measure to evaluate the quality of a trust model, i.e., Quality of Trust (QoT). We provide taxonomies of trust models and their applications, and continue with a thorough review on trust models in HetNets. Based on the review, a list of open issues is highlighted, and corresponding future research directions are suggested to advance the research on trustworthy HetNets. - Transmission-Type Optical Modulator Based on Graphene Plasmonic Resonator Integrated with Off-Resonant Au Structure
A1 Alkuperäisartikkeli tieteellisessä aikakauslehdessä(2020-09-01) Xia, Yuyu; Wang, Jie; Zhang, Yanbin; Shan, Yuwei; Dai, Yunyun; Chen, Ang; Shen, Tangyao; Wu, Shiwei; Liu, Xiaohan; Shi, Lei; Zi, JianIn this paper, a transmission-type graphene plasmonic modulator by introducing off-resonant Au structure is theoretically and experimentally investigated. It is found that the modulation efficiency and bandwidth could be dramatically enhanced compared with bare graphene plasmonic structure. The validity of this proposed method is verified both in the 1D and 2D graphene plasmonic structures: ribbons and holes. This work will open up a new path to design the high-efficiency modulators, switches, and multispectral detectors.
