- Modeling of a condenser
Helsinki University of Technology | Master's thesis(2004) Tuomarla, JariIn the literature survey part of this study, black liquor evaporation processes and evaporation equipment were introduced. Also heat and mass transfer phenomena in evaporators was discussed. The experimental part of the study involved a development of a simulation model for a falling film type black liquor evaporator. The model was constructed as an equilibrium stage model and corrected with point efficiencies to get more realistic results. The model was programmed with Fortran programming language and linked to Flowbat simulation program as a new unit. Main purpose of the model is to predict concentrations of condensates coming from evaporator. User can define what components are included in the model. However sufficient equilibrium data must be available. Finally the model was tested against experimental measurements from a Finnish pulp mill. Especially methanol concentrations were concerned; other components included in the model were methyl mercaptan and water. Deviations between calculated and measured methanol concentrations varied between 0.0 -5.5 %. Percentual deviations in methyl mercaptan concentrations were bigger that was probably caused by very small mercaptan concentrations.
