Item The effect of repair to apartment buildings' environmental load(2010) Tommila, Tuire; Saari, Arto; Insinööritieteiden ja arkkitehtuurin tiedekunta; Insinööritieteiden korkeakoulu; School of Engineering; Saari, ArtoThis "The effects of energy-saving repairs to apartment buildings' emissions" master thesis is part of the "Coordinating the energy solutions and management of community and buildings, both gross economically and minimizing the environmental emissions"-research programme of TEKES. To examine buildings' greenhouse gas emissions and the effect of repair, 1 regenerated the existing computing tool. It has used to work as a computing tool for emissions caused by new buildings and calculated by construction parts. With the regenerated computing tool it's possible to calculate the effects of different repair solutions to buildings' emissions, considering the savings in energy consumption due to the repair. The regenerated computing tool contains also the MIPS method, which measures the human-induced material flows and thereby the environmental changes. In this master's thesis it is examined three average Finnish apartment buildings from years 1952, 1968 and 1986. In the work it' s shown both the results of the regenerated computing tool and the analysis of energy savings and greenhouse gas emissions related to repairs in selected apartment buildings. To determine the emissions derived by heat and power, it is studied four typical power plants in Finland that clearly differs in the way they generate energy. According to the results of the computing tool, the vast majority of greenhouse gas emissions derived by residences are descended from heating, and the emissions vary strongly whether a combined heat and power exists and what fuels are used.
