Wave loads can be determined with spectral analysis and the statistics of wave conditions have been determined for different sea areas. Therefore, design loads can be taken into account in the design phase when ship operation area is known. However, this is not the case in ice conditions. Short term maximum ice induced loads are analysed in this thesis. The aim is to determine the relation between the statistical parameters, such as the mean value and the standard deviation, of the measured ice loads and the ice conditions. In addition, the aim is to describe the measured short term ice loads with probability distributions. Furthermore, long term maximum loads are predicted with the obtained distributions and the parameters for the distributions are defined by the ice conditions. As a result, the analysis indicates an increasing trend to the statistical parameters as a function of ice thickness. In addition, the ratio between the mean value and the standard deviation approaches the value of one as a function of the maximum measured ice load. o Furthermore, exponential and logarithmic normal distributions are proven to be the best to describe the measured short term maximum loads. In addition, the exponential distribution is shown to give the best prediction for long term ice induced loads.
