Enterprise resource planning system (ERP-system) manages and coordinates all business functions. The performance of the enterprise resource planning system is central when trying to improve the productivity of company processes. The ERP-system controls the company's production; the quality of production planning will benefit from more accurate input data. This thesis develops production planning tasks that help production planning to make more detailed choices for products, when products are scheduled and routed through production, through better use of technical data obtained from customer sales orders. This research concentrates on make to order production (MTO) where taking product specification into account is essential for production planning. From a production controllability point of view, it is important to identify relevant production resources and demand development. This research tries to find methods by which those resources could be utilized in ERP-system's production planning module. A result of the thesis, production control is more detailed and better monitors the critical production resources, and forecasting processing methods have been developed that are more suitable for MTO production.
