Perustieteiden korkeakoulu | Master's thesis(2017-11-08) Sippola, LauriEntrepreneurs try to find the optimal actions for growing a successful company but many fail. This study investigates a real-life journey of a medical technology startup that has succeeded to grow internationally during its first five years. The objective of this study is to understand what kind of entrepreneurial behaviors have impacted the development of the case company. This study also evaluates how literature on entrepreneurial behavior may explain the development. The research is qualitative in nature. The theoretical templates of entrepreneurial behavior compared in this study are causation, effectuation, entrepreneurial bricolage and lean startup methodology. In the analysis, first quantification strategy was used for finding out the most important milestones in the event-history of the company. Then, open ended semi-structured interviews were used in order to understand the entrepreneurial behaviors related to each milestone. Last, an alternative research template strategy was used for finding out how the theoretical templates of entrepreneurial behavior match with the identified behaviors. The results of the study provide insights on entrepreneurial behaviors along one real entrepreneurial journey on a detailed milestone level. Effectuation stands out as the entrepreneurial behavior model that is related to most of the key milestones of the case company. Effectuation refers to behavior where milestones are achieved with systematic action and experimenting utilizing entrepreneurs’ strengths. However, all different entrepreneurial behavior templates chosen to the study resonate with parts of the journey. Thus, the entrepreneurial journey of the case company is a combination of several different entrepreneurial behavior models at different phases, effectuation being the most dominant one. - Hätiköiden euroon?
