  • Modeling of the multiphase fluidized-bed reactor

    The aim of this research was to identify the different factors affecting the performance of a multiphase fluidized-bed reactor (MFR) which is extensively applied in process industry. The literature part first introduced different MFR-types, reactor construction and catalyst. Subsequently, the factors that should be considered in the reactor modelling, phases' holdups, hydrodynamic regimes, dynamics of the bubbles, dynamics of the solid particles and mass transfer were reviewed. Furthermore, the effects of variables (temperature, pressure, superficial velocities, amount of solid and particle size) on different factors were studied. In the applied part, different measurements and correlations of the essential parameters in MFR modelling (gas, holdup, bed voidage, bubbles rise velocity, Sauter diameter of bubbles and mass transfer coefficient) were aggregated. Measurements were compared with each other and with values of commercial-scale reactors. After that, correlations were compared with literature measurements and the best correlations were proposed for the modelling of MFR.
