Poster(2018) Huiku, Leena; Hyrkkänen, Anna-Kaisa; Pasanen, Irma - Bibliometric services in recruiting processes at Aalto University
Poster(2017) Huiku, Leena; Hyrkkänen, Anna-Kaisa; Pasanen, Irma; Tolonen, EvaEstablished in 2010, Aalto University is a new university with centuries of experience. It was created from the merger of three Finnish universities and today it consists of six schools: School of Arts, Design and Architecture; School of Business; School of Chemical Engineering; School of Electrical Engineering; School of Engineering and School of Science with nearly 20 000 students and 4 700 employees, 390 of which are professors. Aalto University has a tenure track system with clearly set evaluation criteria and selection process. The tenure track evaluation criteria is based on the principles of predictability, transparency, and comparability with international standards. Bibliometric analysis have been an integrated part of Aalto University recruiting processes since 2011 and the bibliometric service portfolio has evolved to support the different phases of the tenure track system. The services are all a result of collaboration between several sections of the university: the Management Information Services (MIS) unit coordinates the bibliometric analysis and collaboration partners include HR, the Learning Centre (Library), Research and Innovation Services (RIS), and the selection committees of the schools. In the publication analysis the international bibliometric indicators are used and the overall methodology follows the policies highlighted e.g. in the Leiden Manifesto and the Acumen Portfolio. The poster will give an overview of the current bibliometric service portfolio, the respective partnerships of the service in question, and volume of the service. The poster will focus on the recently launched new service, the Talent Search that aims to identify and attract good candidates to apply for a tenure track position at Aalto University. Talent Search brings together the knowhow of the School´s search committee, HR recruiting specialist, and the bibliometric information specialists of MIS. Based on the descriptive information about the post given by the selection committee the information specialists prepare a search strategy in the bibliometric databases to track down potential candidates. The dialogue with the selection committee continues until the result matches the intended scope of candidates in terms of their tenure track level and publication activity. The HR specialist is subsequently responsible of personally contacting the identified suitable candidates to market the open position. Aalto Talent Search service specifications were introduced in 2015 and the first appointment based on its results took place in 2017. - Branded scholarly information services among young researchers
D4 Julkaistu kehittämis- tai tutkimusraportti taikka -selvitys(2006) Pasanen, IrmaThe study examines the transition of scientific journals to branded scholarly information services. It has been suggested that electronic publishing systems could provide new opportunities to create advanced linking capabilities, community collaboration, and integration across research and application communities at a level not possible with print systems. The scientific journals that are licensed as web-based services include a variety of augmented services to supplement the plain journal articles and reference databases. Branding the services has offered a way to both differentiate and ensure confidence in the Internet. The study seeks to answer the following questions: how do young researchers take notice of branded scholarly information services, how do they value the augmented services, and what, if any, brand value aspects emerged between them and the electronic information services? The theoretical background of the study derives from information-seeking behavior supplemented with marketing and consumer theories about branding and the commodification of information. The empirical research material is compiled from the views of young researchers in the fields of science and technology and the data is statistically analyzed. The results of the study demonstrate that the brand value, the differential effect of the brand name, can be positively affected over time. The study shows that library websites together with colleagues are an important source of initial information about the electronic scholarly information services. The awareness of service brands increases significantly with the frequency of use. The results indicate that the services directly linked with the current core product are becoming an essential part of the journal services. The value of links between other services and products is found to increase significantly with experience. The ability to personalize the services is found to be more important among users with moderate experience. Satisfaction in the services is found to influence the intentions to advocate for the services. In general, young researchers are found inclined to continue using the electronic scholarly information services. However, there is no clear evidence of brand loyalty. - The Character of the Tenure Track Professor Recruits at Aalto University
Poster(2019-09-03) Huiku, Leena; Hyrkkänen, Anna-Kaisa; Pasanen, IrmaAalto University’s tenure track career system offers a well-supported career path for professor-level academics. Since 2010, Aalto University has recruited over 300 professors on the tenure track. Bibliometric analyses have been an integrated part of Aalto University recruiting processes since 2011. The research question in this case study is to analyse to which extent do the bibliometric indicators explain the choice of the recruited professor. The analysis indicates that Aalto University has recruited young, talented and highly cited researchers to the tenure track positions. The recruited professors are slightly at the earlier phases of their scientific career. - Charting the landscape of an innovation university library within the national knowledge society strategy
A4 Artikkeli konferenssijulkaisussa(2008) Pasanen, Irma; Muhonen, AriThe digital age calls for strategies in issues regarding access, dissemination as well as preservation of information. The global digital environment offers new and exciting possibilities to share knowledge across boundaries. In terms of scientific information access to information is crucial for research and innovation. Indeed, universities and libraries have in recent years made considerable investments in providing access to online information. The European Union has invited the member states to reinforce national strategies and structures for access to and preservation and dissemination of scientific information. Furthermore, the member states of the European Union should ensure the long term preservation of scientific information - including publications and data - and pay attention to scientific information in national information preservation strategies. In this paper the recent strategic outlines regarding university libraries in Finland will be presented. The third national information society strategy, the strategy of the Council for Finnish University Libraries, and the forming of the innovation university are discussed. - Teknistieteellisen tiedon näkyvyyden mittaaminen : esiselvitys mahdollisuuksista
