  • Application of Management Models to International Power Plant Operation and Maintenance Services

    In this master’s thesis an integrated management system for international power plant operation and maintenance services was established. The management system is represented as structured processes, following quality management (ISO 9001), environmental management (ISO 14001) and occupational health and safety (ISO 45001) standards. Development of the management system required holistic understanding of operation and maintenance of various power plant types, and the required support processes, including business planning, resource planning, human resources, environmental management, health, safety and security, and information management. As the master’s thesis was delivered to a company offering operation and maintenance as a service, a specific service viewpoint was also present. The international business environment affects the operations and thus had to be noted. To ensure the quality of the process models, the theory of business process modelling was utilized. The core of the master’s thesis is in the literature research, which was carried out to create a comprehensive understanding in all relevant topics. The topics that are addressed include integrated management systems, business process modelling, international business environment, power plant technology and power plant operation and maintenance. The literature research is supplemented with expert interviews and Fortum’s internal materials to provide a comprehensive basis for management system planning. The resulted management system is presented in the final chapter.
