    Energy Efficiency of Modern Datacenter
    (2018-06-18) Korhonen, Santeri
    Perustieteiden korkeakoulu | Master's thesis
Digitalization is here and everyday more and more data are being stored or transferred over the internet. That means that more datacenters are needed and with their growing number the question is if this development is sustainable for energy efficiency. That is why this thesis studies what are the essential factors contributing to the energy efficiency, so the datacenter owners can maximize their energy efficiency and keep the outlook for future sustainable. Through studying 3 datacenters here in Finland and holding interviews this thesis has gathered the following essential factors that contribute to the energy efficiency: business model, datacenter size, reuse of waste heat energy, location, renewability, transparency and open innovation. Concentrating on these factors and making sure that they align with their own business case, datacenter owners can make sure that they can also retain sustainability with their datacenters in future.

ESG and stock performance link under economic crisis: The Australian evidence
    (2024) Korhonen, Santeri
School of Business | Master's thesis
89 percent of investors consider ESG issues in some form but the academic community is debating whether ESG investing leads to higher returns. Earlier research has shown that ESG investing could be related to risk resilience, which might indicate higher financial performance, however, there is lack of recent empirical evidence from the Australian markets. In this research, I address these topics and study the link between ESG Performance and financial performance in ASX markets during Covid-19 crisis. I use an investor-focused perspective, with stock performance as the key financial performance metric due to its universal acceptance as a corporate financial performance measure. Using ESG performance data from Refinitiv, I conduct correlation and single and multiple linear regression analyses for two time periods (panic-period and Covid-19 period) to investigate whether higher ESG performance led to higher stock performance during the pandemic in Australia. I also conduct an additional portfolio analysis with a matching methodology to further study the industry and size factors. The results indicate no statistically significant relationship during panic-period, while weak negative and statistically significant relationship is found during Covid-19 period. However, the Covid-19 period link is challenged by the additional analysis, and this study concludes that ESG performance and stock performance had no significant link during the Covid-19 pandemic in Australia. Importantly, the findings are inconsistent with the instrumental stakeholder theory. The main academic contributions of this study relate to recent empirical evidence from the ASX markets (1) offering new empirical evidence to ESG performance and stock performance link under economic crisis, (2) suggesting that higher ESG performance may have provided risk resilience towards the Covid-19 pandemic and (3) suggesting that ESG investing strategies do not harm financial returns. Additionally, (4) this study developed the methodology by Bialkowski & Slawik (2022) further and the developed, new methodology could be used in future studies.

Preventing bullying in the workplace in the logistics industry
    (2017) Korhonen, Santeri
School of Business | Bachelor's thesis
Objectives The main objective of this study was to find out how can bullying in the workplace be prevented in the logistics industry. Summary This paper studies how can bullying in the workplace be prevented in the logistics industry. The research was done by analyzing primary information that was collected by interviewing two managers and two workers from the logistics industry, and then applying the findings into the literature review about preventing bullying in the workplace. The research found out that the bullying can be prevented by co-operation of workers, superior and HR. Most importantly, HR should create the rules towards bullying within the workplace, superior should control bullying and learn the rules and workers should learn the rules and report the bullying up. In addition, it is important that the information about bullying go from the workforce all the way up to the HR. This study is significant because the area of bullying in the logistics industry is still unknown, the size of the industry is big (for example 6% of the working capital in Finland) and the effects of bullying on employees and organization are clear. Bullying in the workplace can for example reduce the profitability of a company. Conclusions This study suggested that bullying in the workplace should be prevented by the HR, superior and workers. The HR should concentrate on informing the superior about the legal tools in which bullying can be prevented, procedures that can be used to prevent and control bullying and the flexible work environment which basis have been decided by the HR. If necessary, the HR should also control bullying if it has been severe. The superior should train the information given from HR to the workers, control mild bullying and report the HR all bullying activities. The workers should report the bullying to the superior and if the superior is the bully, then the information about bullying should go straight to HR.
