Helsinki University of Technology | Master's thesis(2003) Jokinen, Ossi J.Research problem of the study was defined as a question "In what way Total Quality Management should be implemented in small software product company?" Answer to the question was created through literature and case studies. Research method was constructive. Literature study presented answers to the questions: "what quality is?", "how to make quality?", and "which are special characters of the small software product companies in quality development point of view?". Case study presented special characters of the Softatalo Ltd in quality development point of view, and formulated a model for Total Quality Management in Softatalo Ltd from the basis of the literature study results and the special characters of the Softatalo Ltd. Requirements for the model were for example flexibility, lightness of use, support for company's vision and strategy communication and implementation, support for company's compensation system, and support for possible ISO 9000 quality system implementation. Requirements were achieved well. The model constructed in case study passed weak market test, and its use will be started in Softatalo Ltd. The model is valuated to be usable also in other small software product companies. The model is believed to be useful also in other small software and service companies. In order to develop the model and increase its reliability, studies of its practical use is needed. Practical experiences from the use of the model in Softatalo Ltd will be reported later.
