School of Engineering | Master's thesis(2012) Herranen, MattiExecution of condition investigation of concrete structures in Finland is guided by Condition investigation manual for concrete facade panels, BY 42, published by Concrete Association of Finland. Many developers and consulting engineers refer to methods described in BY 42 publication. However, it has been evident that those methods have not been fully implemented in practice. Especially some parts of the guide that affect directly the investigations' reliability have been occasionally disregarded. This Master's thesis is by nature a form of development research. Its goal is to look into the general state of condition investigations in Finland and to try to find practical measures for improving the quality and reliability of these investigations. Part of this research is defining the essential contents and minimum requirements for a reliable and inclusive condition investigation. Research material consists of literary references, statistical reliability analysis regarding the contents of investigations and surveys of investigators and their clients. Based on the results of the research, it was possible to define the minimum requirements for a reliable condition investigation. It became also evident that investigations in Finland don't satisfy these requirements in general. To find a solution for this dilemma, a practical handbook was developed for clients regarding condition investigations. This handbook is supposed to promote good practices in condition investigations by guiding tendering towards a direction in which more weight is given to general reliability of condition investigations. Client's handbook consists of an extent-based classification-method of investigations, model for calculating concrete sample sizes for different investigations and forms to easily commission a condition investigation. - Puisten kaksinivelkehien käyttö urheiluhallin kattorakenteessa 80 metrin jännevälillä
