Helsinki University of Technology | Master's thesis(2004) Janhunen, SalomonThe study of transport processes in fusion plasmas has been revolutionized by the use of massively parallel computers. The transport of energy and particles in current fusion experiments is seen to be primarily due to turbulence, and turbulence suppression has been observed in a number of experimental scenarios. In this work we describe the development of a numerical model for simulating transport processes in Tokamak plasmas. The work includes description of the kinetic theory on which the numerical model is based on (gyro-kinetic theory), the magnetic field background of the numerical model, the implementation of the model and theoretical comparisons based on the Weiland model (a fluid model with an asymptotic closure).
