The internet of things (IoT) is a new technology that establishes the core of Industry 4.0. The IoT enables the sharing of signals between devices and machines via the internet. Besides, the IoT system enables the utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques to manage and control the signals between different machines based on intelligence decisions. The paper’s innovation is to introduce a deep learning and IoT based approach to control the operation of air conditioners in order to reduce energy consumption. To achieve such an ambitious target, we have proposed a deep learning-based people detection system utilizing the YOLOv3 algorithm to count the number of persons in a specific area. Accordingly, the operation of the air conditioners could be optimally managed in a smart building. Furthermore, the number of persons and the status of the air conditioners are published via the internet to the dashboard of the IoT platform. The proposed system enhances decision making about energy consumption. To affirm the efficacy and effectiveness of the proposed approach, intensive test scenarios are simulated in a specific smart building considering the existence of air conditioners. The simulation results emphasize that the proposed deep learning-based recognition algorithm can accurately detect the number of persons in the specified area, thanks to its ability to model highly non-linear relationships in data. The detection status can also be successfully published on the dashboard of the IoT platform. Another vital application of the proposed promising approach is in the remote management of diverse controllable devices.Item Effective Nonlinear Model Predictive Control Scheme Tuned by Improved NN for Robotic Manipulators(IEEE-INST ELECTRICAL ELECTRONICS ENGINEERS INC, 2021-04) Elsisi, Mahmoud; Mahmoud, Karar; Lehtonen, Matti; Darwish, Mohamed M. F.; Department of Electrical Engineering and Automation; Power Systems and High Voltage Engineering; National Taiwan University of Science and TechnologyThe nonlinearities of the robotic manipulators and the uncertainties of their parameters represent big challenges against the controller design. Moreover, the tracking of regular and irregular trajectories with fewer overshoots, short settling time, and small steady-state error is the main target for the robotic response. The model predictive control (MPC) is an efficient controller to handle the performance requirements. However, the conventional MPC requires the linearization of the system model. The linearization of the model does not cover all dynamics of the robotic system. Thus, this paper introduces the nonlinear MPC (NLMPC) as a proper control method for the nonlinear systems instead of the conventional MPC. Specifically, this work proposes the use of NLMPC for controlling robotic manipulators. However, the NLMPC gains need proper tuning to attain good performance rather than the conventional methods. The neural network algorithm (NNA) considers a sufficient adaptive intelligent technique that can be utilized for this purpose. The restriction in a local optimum reveals the main issue versus artificial intelligence techniques. This paper suggests a new improvement to reinforce the exploration behavior of the NNA to overcome the local restriction issue. This modification is carried out by utilizing the polynomial mutation as an effective method to promise the exploration manner of the intelligence techniques. The proposed system can estimate all states from only the output to reduce the cost of the required sensors to measure all states. The results confirm the superiority of the proposed systems with the estimator with negligible change in the output response. The proposed modified NNA (MNNA) is evaluated with the main NNA, genetic algorithm-based PID control scheme, besides the cuckoo search algorithm-based PID control scheme from other works. Accordingly, the application of IoT and CPS has been expanded in applied electrical systems and machines. However, cybersecurity represents the main challenge of the implementation of IoT against cyber-attacks. In this regard, this paper proposes a new IoT architecture based on utilizing machine learning techniques to suppress cyber-attacks for providing reliable and secure online monitoring for the induction motor status. In particular, advanced machine learning techniques are utilized here to detect cyber-attacks and motor status with high accuracy. The proposed infrastructure validates the motor status via communication channels and the internet connection with economical cost and less effort on connecting various networks. For this purpose, the CONTACT Element platform for IoT is adopted to visualize the processed data based on machine learning techniques through a graphical dashboard. Once the cyber-attacks signal has been detected, the proposed IoT platform based on machine learning will be visualized automatically as fake data on the dashboard of the IoT platform. Different experimental scenarios with data acquisition are carried out to emphasize the performance of the suggested IoT topology. The results confirm that the proposed IoT architecture based on the machine learning technique can effectively visualize all faults of the motor status as well as the cyber-attacks on the networks. Moreover, all faults of the motor status and the fake data, due to the cyber-attacks, are successfully recognized and visualized on the dashboard of the proposed IoT platform with high accuracy and more clarified visualization, thereby contributing to enhancing the decision-making about the motor status. Furthermore, the introduced IoT architecture with Random Forest algorithm provides an effective detection for the faults on motor due to the vibration under industrial conditions with excellent accuracy of 99.03% that is significantly greater than the other machine learning algorithms. Besides, the proposed IoT has low latency to recognize the motor faults and cyber-attacks to present them in the main dashboard of the IoT platform.Item An Improved Neural Network Algorithm to Efficiently Track Various Trajectories of Robot Manipulator Arms(IEEE-INST ELECTRICAL ELECTRONICS ENGINEERS INC, 2021) Elsisi, Mahmoud; Mahmoud, Karar; Lehtonen, M.; Darwish, Mohamed M. Furthermore, the controller gains require proper optimization to achieve good performance. In this paper, the use of a modified neural network algorithm (MNNA) is proposed as a novel adaptive tuning algorithm to optimize the controller gains. Furthermore, a new mathematical modulation is introduced to promote the exploration manner of the NNA without initial parameters. Specifically, the modulation is formed by using a polynomial mutation. The proposed algorithm is applied to select the proportional integral derivative (PID) controller gains of a robot manipulator arms in lieu of conventional procedures of designer expertise. Another vital contribution is formulating a new performance index that guarantees to improve the settling time and the overshoot of every arm output simultaneously. The proposed algorithm is evaluated with different intelligent techniques in the literature, including the genetic algorithm (GA) and the cuckoo search algorithm (CSA) with PID controllers, where its superiority to follow various trajectories is demonstrated. To affirm the robustness and efficiency of the proposed algorithm, several trajectories and uncertainties of parameters are considered for assessing the response of a robotic manipulator.Item Improvement of trajectory tracking by robot manipulator based on a new co-operative optimization algorithm(MDPI AG, 2021-12-14) Elsisi, Mahmoud; Zaini, Hatim G.; Mahmoud, Karar; Bergies, Shimaa; Ghoneim, Sherif S.M.; Department of Electrical Engineering and Automation; Power Systems and High Voltage Engineering; National Taiwan University of Science and Technology; Taif UniversityThe tracking of a predefined trajectory with less error, system-settling time, system, and overshoot is the main challenge with the robot-manipulator controller. In this regard, this paper introduces a new design for the robot-manipulator controller based on a recently developed algorithm named the butterfly optimization algorithm (BOA). The proposed BOA utilizes the neighboring butterflies’ co-operation by sharing their knowledge in order to tackle the issue of trapping at the local optima and enhance the global search. Furthermore, the BOA requires few adjustable parameters via other optimization algorithms for the optimal design of the robot-manipulator controller. The BOA is combined with a developed figure of demerit fitness function in order to improve the trajectory tracking, which is specified by the simultaneous minimization of the response steady-state error, settling time, and overshoot by the robot manipulator. Various test scenarios are created to confirm the performance of the BOA-based robot manipulator to track different trajectories, including linear and nonlinear manners. Besides, the proposed algorithm can provide a maximum overshoot and settling time of less than 1.8101% and 0.1138 s, respectively, for the robot’s response compared to other optimization algorithms in the literature. The proposed infrastructure is utilized for monitoring the cutting process while maintaining the cutting stability of CNC machines in order to ensure effective cutting processes that can help to increase the quality of products. For this purpose, a force sensor is installed in the milling CNC machine center to measure the vibration conditions. Accordingly, an IoT architecture is designed to connect the sensor node and the cloud server to capture the real-time machine's status via message queue telemetry transport (MQTT) protocol. To classify the different cutting conditions (i.e., stable cutting and unstable cuttings), an improved model of DNN is designed in order to maintain the healthy state of the CNC machine. As a result, the developed deep learning can accurately investigate if the transmitted data of the smart sensor via the internet is real cutting data or fake data caused by cyber-attacks or the inefficient reading of the sensor due to the environment temperature, humidity, and noise signals. The outstanding results are obtained from the proposed approach indicating that deep learning can outperform other traditional machine learning methods for vibration control. The Contact elements for IoT are utilized to display the cutting information on a graphical dashboard and monitor the cutting process in real-time. Experimental verifications are performed to conduct different cutting conditions of slot milling while implementing the proposed deep machine learning and IoT-based monitoring system. The cyber-physical systems utilize the embedded software and internet to connect and control the smart machines that are addressed by the internet of things (IoT). These cyber-physical systems are the basis of the fourth industrial revolution which is indexed by industry 4.0. In particular, industry 4.0 relies heavily on the IoT and smart sensors such as smart energy meters. The reliability and security represent the main challenges that face the industry 4.0 implementation. This paper introduces a new infrastructure based on machine learning to analyze and monitor the output data of the smart meters to investigate if this data is real data or fake. The fake data are due to the hacking and the inefficient meters. The industrial environment affects the efficiency of the meters by temperature, humidity, and noise signals. Furthermore, the proposed infrastructure validates the amount of data loss via communication channels and the internet connection. The decision tree is utilized as an effective machine learning algorithm to carry out both regression and classification for the meters’ data. The data monitoring is carried based on the industrial digital twins’ platform. The proposed infrastructure results provide a reliable and effective industrial decision that enhances the investments in industry 4.0.Item Robust Design of ANFIS Based Blade Pitch Controller for Wind Energy Conversion Systems Against Wind Speed Fluctuations(IEEE-INST ELECTRICAL ELECTRONICS ENGINEERS INC, 2021) Elsisi, Mahmoud; Tran, Minh-Quang; Mahmoud, Karar; Lehtonen, Matti; Darwish, Mohamed M. Besides, the inefficient measuring devices and the environmental impacts (e.g. temperature, humidity, and noise signals) affect the system equipment, leading to increased system uncertainty issues. In addition, the time delay due to the communication channels can make a gap between the transmitted control signal and the WECS that causes instability for the WECS operation. To tackle these issues, this paper proposes an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) as an effective control technique for blade pitch control of the WECS instead of the conventional controllers. However, the ANFIS requires a suitable dataset for training and testing to adjust its membership functions in order to provide effective performance. In this regard, this paper also suggests an effective strategy to prepare a sufficient dataset for training and testing of the ANFIS controller. Specifically, a new optimization algorithm named the mayfly optimization algorithm (MOA) is developed to find the optimal parameters of the proportional integral derivative (PID) controller to find the optimal dataset for training and testing of the ANFIS controller. To demonstrate the advantages of the proposed technique, it is compared with different three algorithms in the literature. Another contribution is that a new time-domain named figure of demerit is established to confirm the minimization of settling time and the maximum overshoot in a simultaneous manner. A lot of test scenarios are performed to confirm the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed ANFIS based technique. The robustness of the proposed method is verified based on the frequency domain conditions that are driven from Hermite–Biehler theorem. F.; Department of Electrical Engineering and Automation; Power Systems and High Voltage Engineering; National Taiwan University of Science and Technology; Tanta UniversityRecently, the Internet of Things (IoT) has an important role in the growth and development of digitalized electric power stations while offering ambitious opportunities, specifically real-time monitoring and cybersecurity. In this regard, this paper introduces a novel IoT architecture for the online monitoring of the gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) status instead of the traditional observation methods. The proposed IoT architecture is derived from the concept of the cyber-physic system (CPS) in Industry 4.0. However, the cyber-attacks and the classification of the GIS insulation defects represent the main challenges against the implementation of IoT topology for the online monitoring and tracking of the GIS status. For this purpose, advanced machine learning techniques are utilized to detect cyber-attacks to conduct the paradigm and verification. Different test scenarios on various defects in GIS are performed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed IoT architecture. Partial discharge pulse sequence features are extracted for each defect to represent the inputs for IoT architecture. The results confirm that the proposed IoT architecture based on the machine learning technique, that is the extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost), can visualize all defects in the GIS with different alarms, besides showing the cyber-attacks on the networks effectively. Furthermore, the defects of GIS and the fake data due to the cyber-attacks are recognized and presented on the dashboard of the proposed IoT platform with high accuracy and more clarified visualization to enhance the decision-making about the GIS status.
