    The invention, to which protection is sought, is defined in the claims. Therefore, it is essential that the claims are clear and do not cause uncertainty to the scope of protection. Patent examiner should point out to the applicant any questions concerning the clarity of claims already at the examination stage.Problems with clarity are often connected to problems with sufficiency of disclosure and unity of claims. These questions are very difficult to separate. Clarity is also a matter of interpretation so the final form of claims is sometimes defined by the board of appeals.Clarity problems may arise from the configuration of claims, category of claims, missing essential features, desiderata claims or specific terms and definitions in the claims etc.
